Bike Wreck

July 17th:  Four days after Scott learned to ride his bike without training wheels, he had a bad wreck.

He and I walked over to the dumpster to throw our trash away.  Then we were going to get in the truck and go down to the farmer's market that goes on every Thursday here in the park we are staying in.  Before we got back from the dumpster, Henry and Sage walked outside.  Sage jumped on his bike.  So...Scott jumped on his bike.  Neither one put their helmet on.  I said to Henry, "They really need to have their helmets on."  BUT because I was only going to let them ride for 2 minutes (literally because we were leaving), I didn't press the issue.  Henry went back inside.  Scott goes, "Mommy!  Watch!  I can go in circles!"  This was something he had been practicing so he was so excited to show me.  As soon as he said that, I said, "Scott...Be careful!"  And BAM!  He crashed.  And his head slammed into the concrete.  I saw it happen.  And I keep seeing it happen 2 weeks later.   It was BAD.  I ran over to him, scooped him up like I was She-Ra, and carried him into the RV.

Henry and I did little 'tests' to see if he was with it like having him say all of our names, tell us how many fingers we have it, watch our fingers with his eyes as we move them, etc.  He could do it all, but then...he started to fall asleep.  That's when I knew we had to take him to the hospital.  Henry stayed home with Sage because he was still working.  On the way to the hospital, Scott tried to fall asleep 2 more times.  Thankfully, the hospital is only 2 miles away.

When we walked into the emergency room,
there was not a soul in there.  Not even at the desk!
Two ladies came in, and I had to ask, "Is this really the
emergency room?" because I had never been in an empty one!

Hate seeing my baby laying in a hospital bed.
The doctor did all the same little tests that I had done
at home.  I told him that Scott had tried to fall
asleep 3 times since hitting his head, and he ordered
a cat scan.  Scott was brave during the cat scan.
They let me stand next to him as the machine
scanned him.  All was good!!  Thank God!

When I told Scott I was going to take him to the hospital,
he flipped out.  He is terrified of hospitals even if he's not the patient.
So...I did what any mother would do and promised a frosty!
His boo boo does look like a lipstick kiss in this picture.

We had plans that night already to go to dinner
with Henry's mom at a place
called Milliken's Reef.  We met some friends
of hers there too.   It's a really nice
restaurant in Cape Canaveral on the water.
Inside is fine dining complete with saxophone
player.  Outside is casual dining complete
with beach volleyball.   We ate inside.
I enjoyed the crab cakes!

We came across a very large pirate.

There was also a band outside playing 'beachy music'.

Literally right on the water.

The bike accident happened 2 weeks ago, and Scott's head injury is all healed up.  It is a bit pink still, but very light.  He still loves riding his bike, but this momma is a nervous wreck every time he gets on it!

And then there were 2 wheels...

On July 13th, I checked facebook and saw that one of Scott's best buddies back home in Ohio was learning how to ride his bike without training wheels.  As soon as I told Scott, he had his dad go outside and take his training wheels off.  He wanted to learn too!  I, though, did NOT want his training wheels to come off just yet.  Those training wheels slowed him down and prevented him from being a crazy kid on wheels.  (Scott is typically a fearless kid).

But....they came off.

Henry started him out on the grass.

See all of the open space we have right next to us!
It's our own private yard...in a campground!

Henry is a fabulous, patient teacher!

And just like that...within 5 minutes he is doing it!

He's doing it!!

Henry took him over to the dumpster
to throw away the training wheels.

Bye bye training wheels!

He was sooooo proud of himself!!
(And we were proud of him too...
and maybe a little sad...that my
baby is no longer a baby!)

Grandparent Visit!

The reason we are in Florida is because of FAMILY.
My grandparents live about 1.5 hour away from our current campground.
They came for a visit on Saturday, July 12th.
My cousin came over with her family too.
And guess what!?
We all fit in the RV!
6 adults and 4 children.

My grandparents have lived in Florida for 27 years!
They moved away from our hometown of Huntington, WV when I was 10.

This picture is just too funny not to share.
Scott wanted to pretend that he was riding the flamingo Pearl.
He was saying, "Daddy, take my picture!  Take my picture!"
Love his innocence!

Just a normal day...

I have yet to be brave and take the boys to the beach by myself.
I'm not a fan of the beach.
I know, I know...I'm not normal.
I like going and just taking a walk on the beach, but...
My boys actually like to go out into the water....imagine that!
The rip currents here have been too strong for my liking.
So we've been waiting to go until Henry is done working for the day.

Pure joy!

Family selfie!

And then a wave crashed on us.

This picture was taken a different day.
We've been going to the 'dog beach' because
the boys love watching the dogs play in the water.

It is such a weird thing that going to the beach before or after dinner is our normal now.

Brevard Zoo

We are staying in a campground that is located close to my cousin and her family.  She has two super cute girls who are 2 and 4.  My cousin is also pregnant with her 3rd girl.

On Monday, July 7th, the boys and I went to the Brevard Zoo with them.  This zoo is really small, but made a fun morning outing.

The kiddos checking out some cool birds.

Horrible picture, but these are baby meerkats
that were 3 weeks old.
I had no idea meerkats were so cute!

The girls having a 'tea party'.

Here's Scott feeding a bird.

The food is put on popsicle sticks.
Sage wouldn't feed the birds because
we didn't know what the actual food was.
He saw some peanuts in shells on the
desk so his anxiety level was
pretty high while we were in this exhibit.

Well, look at that!
My cousin, the Bird Whisperer.

Family bragging moment:  My cousin is an AMAZING
elementary teacher!  You can follow her on Facebook at
'Teacher by the Beach' and her blog is
She has a store on the Teachers Pay Teachers site, called
No matter how your kids are educated,
her ideas are useful and creative!

The boy's favorite part of the zoo
was this little water area
which is free.

July 4th Weekend Florida-Style

On July 4th, we headed north to Port Orange, FL.
We stayed with my in-laws for the weekend.
(We left the RV parked at the campground).

On the way there, we told the boys
that smiles and laughter
were not allowed that day
(we were kidding with them, of course)
which instantly made them
smile and giggle.
(And yes, I made Scott put his seatbelt
over his shoulder right after I took this pic).

Sage got the giggles too!

My MIL and SIL had a barbeque for about 30 people.
Lots of good food from ribs, chicken,
hot dogs, egg rolls,
salad, mac n cheese, coleslaw,
spinach artichoke dip/chips,
watermelon.

Dressed in red and blue!

My in-laws have a hot tub,
and the boys LOVE it!

Tom's friend told us that a good spot
to watch fireworks was the Home Depot
parking lot so we headed there.

The night sky was beautiful.
(And no rain!)

Our truck came in handy once again!

Henry's sister came with us to see the fireworks.

It was neat to watch the sky's color change
as the sun set.

Standing in the back of the truck to see
the fireworks.  And well....
we could barely see them.
We were so far away that Scott was
able to take his noise cancelling head phones off.
And the bright lights in the Home Depot lot
didn't help the cause.

The biggest obstacle were the trees
that had grown since last year.
Oh well...we had a good time anyway!

We forgot to pack the boy's toothbrushes
for our weekend trip so we bought
these cool light-up brushes for them.
Henry took like 15 pictures of them
trying to a get a picture of both
boy's brushes lit up.  It was so
weird because he could NOT
get a picture of Scott's orange brush lit up.
Sage's was always lit up.  Scott's never.

The next day we headed to Daytona Beach
and met up with some friends.
The boys love the beach!
Sage loves to boogie board.
Scott does not.

Funny Story:  While at the beach, Scott had to go pee.  I told him that when we are at the beach that he could just pee in the water.  (Don't judge!  :-)  He takes everything very literally.  He turns around, runs to the waterline, drops his shorts, and pees in the water....as everyone watches him.  He didn't have a care in the world.  It was so hilarious....I had just taken a drink of water, and I couldn't swallow the water because I was laughing so hard.  I did what any other mother would....just turned around and pretended like he wasn't my son.

After the beach,
we went back to my in-laws
for some DELICIOUS pho!

Then we went to a friend's house to play!
They have all the fun toys!

Serious gaming going on.

Lego time!

Then we went back to my in-laws and played
with more friends!
This is Jack and Peter.
The boys love playing with them!
This is Animal Bingo.

Sunday morning, I got up early and went to the farmer's market with my SIL.  It was at the Daytona Flea and Farmer's Market.  It was the largest farmer's market I had ever been to.  TONS of vendors!

Sunday evening, we drove back to our RV.  It was a great 4th of July weekend!
